Over the July 4th Weekend, ten CRCA riders took part in the Coupe des Ameriques in Sutton, Quebec. This three-day, four-stage race is billed as the “Best Masters Race in North America”. The race consisted of a 20k mass start prologue/hillclimb, a 13k rolling time trial, a tough 52.5k circuit race, and a 88k hilly road race. Highlights for CRCA included Ann Marie Miller (CRCA/FuoriclasseRacing) winning GC for the woman’s GC title. Sarah Sauvayre and Becky Hicks (both of CRCA/ComedyCentral) took second and third overall, and Colleen Collins took 6th. Miller won each stage, with Sauvayre and Hicks both taking several podiums as well. Miller bested Sauvayre by just three seconds over the final stage, the road race.
In the 50 plus Men’s race, Pascal Sauvayre (CRCA/BH-Garneau) won stage three, with a late solo break on a long flat section leading to the finish. Pascal took fifth on GC while also taking top ten’s in the time trial and road race. David Carr (CRCA/Setanta) took 6th in the time trial and 10th in the circuit race. Rob Stern turned in an 11th place in the time trial.
In the 30 plus Men’s race, David Taylor (CRCA/FuoriclasseRacing) took 9th on GC and 7th in the prologue.
