6/5/11 Race Results
Sunday was the second day of this weekend's double header with double points on offer for the Jim Boyd Cup in the Men's A and Men's B races. The weather was perfect, the fields were well stacked and, of course, we had a little dose of controversy to keep us all chatting away on NYVelocity... The racing was hard and fast in the A field and Alejandro Guzman (Foundation) crossed the line first after he and Ariel Mendez (Jonathan Adler) successfully broken away from the pack on the last lap. But when Gavin Robertson popped up to cross in third place despite flatting and sitting out an earlier lap, race officials (and the Board) determined that his continued involvement in the race may have unfairly changed the outcome of the race. Therefore, citing rule 1Q1, the Foundation team members finishing in the placings were all relegated, leaving Ariel the winner. With double Boyd Points on offer, the win moved Ariel to the top of the Jim Boyd competition. Jonathan Adler also benefited from the relegation of Foundation and scored enough points to take the lead in the Team Cup.
There was less controversial was the B field Race where Foundation took first (Antonio Munoz) and second (Zachary Gladney in a field sprint. The Jim Boyd competition is now very tight with Ryan McGarrity leading Antonio Munoz by 1 point. Siggi's/NYVelocity's lead over Foundation in the team cup narrowed to 10 points.
In the C field a break of five riders formed on the first lap and stayed away with Mike Anderson (Siggi’s/NYVelocity) taking the win from his break away companions.
